The Aeroplane

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is a single-seater aeroplane designed in 1934, with a few changes along the way. At the time it was one of the most advance aircraft around, both aerodynamically and structurally. The model here is a G series which was introduced in 1942, using a 1455HP V12 engine from Daimler-Benz powering a single propeller at the front. This powered the aircraft to a top speed of nearly 400mph.

The Model

This was built from the 1:72 scale airfix kit. The kit itself was very basic, so I added an interior cockpit set from Aires and an engine kit from CMK. These took quite a bit of work to install. The cockpit is barely visible inside due to how thick the frame is, but still looks better than what would have been there. I wanted to focus my efforts on this build with the weathering and camo, as it's an area I've not ventured into before. With this being such a small kit, it is not easy to replicate in scale.
