The Car

The last of the 4 wheel drive Celica's dominated the 1993 WRC season, starting off at Monte Carlo, which is the version I chose to represent. It was one of the most technologically advanced rally cars of its time, with nearly 300HP from it's 2 litre turbo charged engine.

The Model

Tamiya created another stunning 1:24 scale model with this Celica representing the best of it's time. To improve the kit I used the Hobby Design detail set, which has a raft of photo etch and turned metal parts to bring the model to life. I decided to use neodymium magnets to hold the spot lights on to allow them to be removeable. This was done at an early stage of the build to ensure they would fit correctly and allow me to paint the model without any visible holes for mounting them. Building a rally car allows the opportunity to do some weathering that would not normally be seen on a road car so I took the opportunity to muddy it up to look like it had just finished one of the stages.
